The town of Orono is named for Penobscot Chief Joseph Orono, the blond-haired, blue-eyed Native-American who helped George Washington during the American Revolution.


Penobscot Chief Joseph Orono, for whom the town of Orono is named, was more than one hundred years old when he died.
